Here are some miscellaneous tips for debugging HTML, CSS, and JavaScript in Mozilla Firefox.

They include references to Firefox extensions (plug-ins) that you will need or want, as well as tips for configuring Firefox, how to actually invoke the debugging procedures, and a few shortcuts to keep in mind. A number of landmines are also pointed out along the way. (Please avoid stepping on those, because it gets messy.)

The popularity of the internet browser Firefox continues to grow by the day, but it still has a few annoying quirks. One of these is that it can be difficult to watch Windows Media Player videos within Firefox.

Luckily, thanks to Port 25, who are the team at Microsoft who look after interoperability, there’s a new Windows Media Player Plugin for Firefox. Once installed this plugin will improve support for embedded Windows Media Player videos.

Mozilla on Thursday launched Thunderbird 2, the latest version of its free, open-source e-mail client featuring message tagging and customization.

Thunderbird 2, with its enhanced features, is intended to ease the organization of e-mail via message tags, advanced folder viewing, and speedier inbox and message searching. Under its message tagging feature, users can assign single or multiple custom tags to their e-mail, such as “from mom” or “weekend projects.” Users would also be able to assign default tags, as well.

Google Voice Local Search is Google’s experimental service to make local-business search accessible over the phone. To try this service, just dial 1-800-GOOG-411 (1-800-466-4411) from any phone.

Using this service, you can:
* search for a local business by name or category.
You can say “Giovanni’s Pizzeria” or just “pizza”.
* get connected to the business, free of charge.
* get the details by SMS if you’re using a mobile phone.
Just say “text message”.

US BOFFINS claim that people looking at news websites spend longer reading stories than those reading those old fashioned inky newspapers, reports the Daily Telegraph.

A study of 600 people found that online readers managed to get through 75 per cent of each story as opposed to a measly 62 percent reading quality newspapers (like the Torygraph) and a pathetic 57 per cent of tabloid newsprint stories in rags such as the Sun. This means that only the most determined readers will have got this far through this story, so there’s hardly any point writing any more.

Everyone has a daily online routine: checking e-mail in the morning, sports scores after lunch, The Onion on Wednesdays, The New York Times Magazine on Sunday. Morning Coffee, a handy Firefox extension, helps streamline these surfing rituals. With it you can organize which sites you want to check each day and then open them simultaneously in tabs. When you are in explorer and are manually typing in a long folder path or at a command prompt navigating through many directories, below are two cool tips that will help you save time.

The first is one that I have been using for years. When working at a command prompt, instead to typing in the full text of an item, just hit the tab key to bring up full items. For example, say I want to change the directory to the Windows folder. At a command prompt I would type in CD wind and then hit the tab key and “Windows” will automatically show up. Think of the tab key as a kind of auto complete for DOS. This same technique also works in Windows Explorer.
